Woodstock D3123 Heavy-duty Miter Gauge

Cheap Woodstock D3123 Heavy-duty Miter Gauge Review

This is an excellent miter guage. I own a 14" vertical metal cutting bandsaw with grooves in its table and i wanted a heavy duty metal miter guage to hold steel stock. This is exactly what the doctor asked for. The rigid casting gives good weight and positive travel. The handle is easy to operate and right where it should be. There was absolutely no slop at all when I lay it in the groove and a little silicone and it slides down the groove like iit was built for it. I'm not sure why the previous customer was complaing about the bent over indictor, it is heavy duty 1/8" Hardened Steel. Your not going to bend that thing on accident. In fact I think only a drop onto the floor or direct hit with a hammer is going to affect it. Look at other miter guage indicators they are pathetic little pieces of plastic or thin strips of metal. This thing is serious business.

First thing I did was flip the entire guage over and push it up against the table to align it to square. The indicator was almost right at 0dgs so I just took the set screw out and moved the indicator a tiny bit and then reset the set screw. Easy enough. This type of miter is for heavy work, steel cutting, or cutting large timber where something lighter may bounce around or just get screwed up. That said the indicator is not the most precise thing in the world. So if you need to make fractions of a single degree I'd suggest a different guage. Yet this will still make good accurate cuts. I could see using this on a professional (think 00.00 and up) type table saw or on a metal/wood cuting vertical saw.

Note: This comes from Grizzly and Grizzly doesn't put their name on crap. So you can be assured that for the money your getting a very rugged fence. It's to bad the pictures on here don't give you a good idea of the quality and weight of this guage. All in all i'm very pleased with this transaction as it pushes metal into my bandsaw with a good positive feel. 5/5 stars.
